The Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel is awarded annually to the most outstanding men’s college golfer, as voted on by players, coaches and media members. Past winners of the Haskins Award include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ben Crenshaw.

Here is a look at the top 15 contenders after the Cabo Collegiate and Southern Highlands Collegiate, two of the spring's premier events:

Want to play on the PGA Tour? You don't have to be a PGA Tour pro, or even a pro, to do it.

Every year a select group of amateurs gets a chance to tee it up with the world's best, and though it is not easy, there are a surprising number of ways for amateurs to get into a PGA Tour event.

Barring an unforeseen late career push, Charles Howell III will not make the World Golf Hall of Fame. But when it comes to making money on the PGA Tour, the veteran player is nearly in a class of his own.

Howell's T-53 at last week's WGC-Mexico Championship went largely unnoticed, but he didn't walk away empty handed, earning $39,100. So what? Well, that chunk of change took him to $1,022,917 in earnings for the season, pushing him over the $1 million mark for a 20th consecutive year.

The consensus preseason NCAA favorites cleared a big hurdle Wednesday in La Quinta, California.

Texas, which hadn’t won an official stroke-play event since it hosted an NCAA regional last spring, picked up a much-needed victory against an elite field at The Prestige at PGA West. The Longhorns, ranked No. 1 to begin the season but 25th to start the spring, clipped current top-ranked Pepperdine by six shots.

The wait for season-long substitutions continues.

While subs are currently permitted in college golf for Division I men’s postseason and conference play (and women’s NCAA match play), they have yet to be allowed during the men’s regular season. That will remain the case until at least the fall of 2021.

One of the uncomfortable truths of the Korn Ferry Tour is that no one wants to be there. Sure, the quality of play is exceptional – it’s arguably the second-best circuit in the world – but the tour serves primarily as a feeder system for the big leagues. It’s a stepping stone, not the final destination.

This season’s Haskins Award race will have a remarkably different look.

The reigning recipient, Oklahoma State’s Matthew Wolff, has turned pro, as have top contenders Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State, Collin Morikawa of Cal and Will Gordon of Vanderbilt. There was certainly a ton of changeover in the men's game.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – It was like olden times.

Matthew Wolff is so good that as a freshman at Oklahoma State, he received a vote for the Haskins Award as the best college player without even winning a tournament.

There’s a little more to the story.

Oklahoma State’s Matthew Wolff has to make some more room on his trophy shelf.

Last week the Cowboy sophomore won the individual national title at the men’s 2019 NCAA Championship, and on Tuesday night he was honored with the 2019 Haskins Award as Player of the Year in men’s college golf.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – It was like olden times.

Tiger Woods, wearing a red mock golf shirt, was once again stalking a Masters title on the hallowed ground of Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday in the 83rd edition of the Masters.

Seeking his fifth green jacket, he was the epicenter of a nuclear final round that saw the manual operators of the famous white scoreboards working at a feverish pace and the delirious patrons shaking the grounds with rumbling ovations.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta National is like Disney World for golfers, which makes it fitting that Wake Forest’s men will follow their Augusta/Haskins Award Invitational win with a day on the grounds there. Head coach Jerry Haas doesn’t care where they go or what they do on Monday’s Masters practice round – just as long as they’re back to the team van by 3 p.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men’s golf team has rebranded its home tournament and will host the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, April 6-7, at Forest Hills Golf Club. The 41st edition of Augusta’s home event features 15 teams competing for two days on the eve of The Masters. Five teams competing are nationally-ranked in the top 50 and two are in the seated in the top 10.

SAN DIEGO – Guam, Cambodia and Mexico intersect on 13 green acres here in the Colina del Sol neighborhood of City Heights, at Colina Park Golf Course, where the warmth you feel has nothing to do with the Southern California sun and everything to do with golf’s innate ability to galvanize different ages, cultures and languages.

Earlier this spring, Oregon head coach Casey Martin called Norman Xiong the best 19-year-old golfer he’s seen since Tiger Woods.

The statement immediately heightened expectations for the ultra-talented, ultra-powerful golfer from Canyon Lake, Calif. But Xiong has embraced the comparison.

MEMPHIS, TN (June 8, 2017) - Things just keep getting better for Braden Thornberry. With the thrill of his NCAA Individual Championship still lingering, Thornberry is now set to make his PGA Tour debut this week at the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind.

"I've been going out to TPC Southwind everyday and playing around. I'm not doing anything too technical, just playing [the course] a lot with different winds and stuff like that to make sure I have a good understanding of how it's going to play. It's been going well," said Thornberry via text message Sunday night.

When it comes to victories, no Division I men’s college golfer had more this season than Ole Miss sophomore Braden Thornberry.

Thornberry, a native of Olive Branch, Miss., won five times in 2016-17, and capped his season with the most impressive victory of all, winning the individual title at the NCAA Championship at Rich Harvest Farms. (Through two seasons, Thornberry has seven career victories, tied with Dave Peege for the most in school history.)

Braden Thornberry already had four individual wins prior to the NCAA Championship during the 2016-’17 college season. But when the 20-year-old sophomore at Mississippi polished off a four-stroke triumph at Rich Harvest Farms last month, the new national champion added one last impressive line to his resume that voters of the Fred Haskins Award could not ignore.

ORLANDO, Fla. – For months, Beau Hossler knew he had a chance to win the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel. He just wasn’t going to consume himself with worrying about an individual award.

For Hossler, if he continued to play well, win tournaments and lead his team to victories, winning the Haskins would be a byproduct of that.
